A 76-year-old Hillsboro man died Wednesday night following a two-car collision on Interstate 29 about 3 miles north of the city.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said Norman Dronen had stopped in the left lane of I-29 for unknown reasons when his vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle.

Barbara Kramer, 56, of Grand Forks was changing lanes to pass a semi when she struck Dronen’s vehicle from behind in the southbound lane of I-29.

Kramer’s Toyota RAV4 pushed Dronen’s vehicle into the median before traveling across both lanes of the interstate, coming to a stop in the highway’s west ditch.

The Highway Patrol said Dronen died at the scene.

Kramer was transported by ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Fargo for treatment of her injuries, which were not released.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
