The number of drug offenses and property crimes reported in Traill County fell sharply in 2019, according to a statewide crime report released Tuesday by Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem.

DUI arrests in Traill County dropped from 40 to 21 in 2019 compared to the previous year while narcotics violations decreased from 35 to 19 locally, the report indicated.

Traill County Sheriff Steve Hunt said his office fielded more service calls in 2019 (2,943) than in 2018 (2,715), but investigators handled fewer crimes.

“If you look across the state, that seemed to be the trend,” Hunt said.

“That could be partially due to the economy, but my department and our deputies are out there working hard. I’d like to think that makes a difference.”
