A man who told a Fargo TV station that he was attacked outside a Hillsboro bar on Sunday for being gay was charged Wednesday in Traill County District Court with disorderly conduct and simple assault.

Authorities believe William Lamb struck a Hillsboro woman in the face before being knocked out by another man who heard a commotion and intervened.

William Lamb was one of four people charged in Traill County District Court in connection with a bar fight outside A&R Bar early Sunday.

According to court documents filed in the case:

Traill County authorities received a report of a fight outside A&R Bar at 111 Main St. shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday.

A deputy who arrived at the scene was told by a bartender that Lamb and two others, Robert Leroy Weatherly and Daniel Maldonaldo, had been drinking at the bar and she warned the trio to leave after a loud argument broke out.

Lamb went into the bar’s beer garden to smoke a cigarette and engaged in a verbal altercation with two women before striking one of them in the face with a closed fist.

According to court records, Brice Willison of Hillsboro was preparing to leave the bar when he heard “yelling and screaming” inside the beer garden.

Willison entered the beer garden and punched Lamb, knocking him out.

Following the altercation, Weatherly threw or pushed another man into a table before Maldonado jumped onto the man and started to bite his hand.

Lamb, Maldonaldo and Weatherly were charged with Class B misdemeanor counts of simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Willison was charged with a Class B misdemeanor count of simple assault.

District Court Judge Susan Bailey summoned Lamb and Maldonado to appear in Traill County District Court Aug. 14.

Weatherly and Willison have court appearances scheduled Aug. 21.

Lamb told WDAY TV on Monday that people inside the bar had hurled anti-gay slurs at him earlier in the evening and that he had been attacked while in the A&R beer garden.
