Ninety-five percent of Hillsboro residents who took part in a recent online survey rated the city a good place to live while 55 percent indicated they live here due to the city’s small size.

However, participants in the Traill County Economic Development Commission survey that wrapped up Monday reported they want more recreation options and restaurants in town.

Requests for more recreation was a consistent theme across Traill County in TCEDC’s survey, filled out this summer by 329 people or 4 percent of the county’s 8,100 residents.

“More recreational opportunities within each community tended to be a trend,” Jim Murphy, TCEDC’s executive director, said Wednesday.

“People are generally looking for more fun things to do in their cities and they want to have more options available to them locally.”

TCEDC released its anonymous survey in July asking residents in five community areas – Hillsboro, Buxton-Reynolds, Mayville-Portland, Hatton and Clifford-Galesburg – to answer 20 to 25 questions about housing costs, how people view their cities and ways they’d improve them.
