June heralds the beginning of fresh veggie season in North Dakota, and many farmers markets across the state are open for business.

It’s still early, but you can find many spring vegetables such as asparagus, lettuce, radishes, garlic scapes and microgreens.

Vendors also have canned jams, jellies and baked goods.

Available nearly year-round are farm-fresh eggs and locally produced honey.

To find and support farmers markets throughout the state, use the interactive map at https://www.nd.gov/ndda/NDLFMAP.

This North Dakota Department of Agriculture interactive map includes:

  • Farmers market locations
  • Individual producer information
  • Farmers and ranchers that sell CSA shares
  • Farmers and ranchers that sell wholesale
  • Farmers and ranchers that sell directly off the farm
  • Pick-your-own-produce locations
  • Roadside stand locations
  • Produce donation sites

Information on farmers markets, how to become a vendor and more information can be found at the North Dakota Farmers Market and Growers Association website at www.ndfarmersmarkets.org.

The nearest farmers market to Hillsboro is the MayPort Market, open Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon in Mayville’s Island Park.
