An employee at Sanford Hillsboro Care Center has tested positive for COVID-19.

Traill District Health Unit Director Brenda Stallman and a media relations specialist for Sanford Health in Fargo confirmed the positive test Tuesday afternoon.

Stallman said the employee has been isolating and following guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for case management.

Stallman said local health officials and the North Dakota Department of Health have been working together to identify people who may have been in close contact with the employee.

The Sanford employee was not listed as a Traill County resident in the Department of Health’s daily updates on COVID-19 cases this week.

Traill County has had one resident diagnosed with the new coronavirus since state health officials began tracking positive cases of COVID-19.

The Banner published an update on Facebook May 6 alerting readers to the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the county.

A woman living in Portland responded to the Banner’s post indicating that her daughter, who lives in Portland and works as a nurse in East Grand Forks, Minn., was diagnosed with the virus.

Stallman asked local residents to continue practicing social distancing and wear cloth masks in public to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
